Prime Minister�s holidays
Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas will be on holiday from 21 October to 2 November.
Gediminas Kirkilas, at the invitation of President of the Tennis Europe Jacques Dupr�, is going to Paris to watch the BNP Paribas Masters match. A return to Vilnius has been scheduled for 2 November. In the meantime, the Prime Minister will be replaced by Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas. 30-10-2008

The yesterday�s working dinner of the Prime Ministers of NB8 focused on the EU-Russia relations and energy security issues.
According to G. Kirkilas, the Baltic Sea Region should stay competitive, environmentally-friendly and closely cooperative, especially dealing with the EU Neighbourhood and EU-Russia relationship issues. G. Kirkilas was convinced that the EU-Russia relations could not normalize unless Russia met its commitments regarding the situation in Georgia. Russia had only partially complied with the September 8th agreement. The talks on the new EU-Russia partnership agreement should not be renewed until Russia withdrew its troops to their pre-August 7th positions. More...

Today, Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas has taken part at the Prime Minister meeting NB8 of Baltic and Nordic States (Denmark, Estonia, Island, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland and Sweden).
The agenda has focussed on the latest international economic developments and EU coordinated response to the global financial crisis. According to Gediminas Kirkilas, the financial crisis has not so far affected Lithuania as bad as other countries, nevertheless, the Government, in preparation for potential changes, has decided to make a one-year deposit insurance of up to EUR 100 000. On Monday, October 27, Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas departs for Helsinki in order to attend an annual meeting of the Prime Ministers of the Nordic and Baltic States.
