Message from the Mayor of Athens

Friends, welcome!

It is with particular joy that I announce that Athens will host the International Children’s Games, from 24 to 28 June 2009.

Five years after the success of the Olympic Games in 2004, the city of Athens will welcome young athletes from all over the world, yet again giving the city the opportunity to show off the experience and knowledge it has gained in hosting all kinds of sporting and cultural events.

The 2009 event in our city has two significant differences compared to previous ICGs. First, the events of the Games will take place in different sports grounds all over Athens so that the entire city can take part in the celebration. Second, for the first time ever, children with disabilities will also be taking part in the Games, making the motto of the Athens Games "Τogether, All friends" a reality.

On this website, which will be updated constantly, you will learn more about the Athens events, the sports grounds, the programme for the Games and other useful information.

Happy browsing and we look forward to seeing you in Athens!

Nikitas Kaklamanis
Mayor of Athens
